Riot Games dropped a dev update on Monday (14th) that pitches its own patch as the "big one" — and this time it's not just agent balance. The video confirms patch 13.06 lands on September 22, bundling a brand-new rifle, an entire game mode, and a revamped agent progression system into a single drop.
The weapon headline is the Warden, a 2,900-credit automatic rifle stepping into ring with the Vandal and Phantom. It's built as a middle ground between the classic rifles and sniper play: a bigger ADS zoom than usual and a flat 50 body damage at every range, skipping the falloff that hurts Vandal and Phantom at long distance. In practice, it's a weapon for players who like holding angles on open maps without paying full price for an Operator.
The new mode is called Gauntlet: Glitched, and it's the kind of idea that only clicks in a game with well-established economy and abilities. Eight duos enter a round-robin elimination tournament, except each pair builds its own "Robo-Agent" by drafting abilities from a randomized pool and evolving that build as the match goes on. The "Glitched" part of the name comes from intentional bugs that flip abilities mid-game — this is chaos by design, built to generate social clips more than to become a serious ranked format.
There's also Agent Mastery, replacing Agent Gear and splitting progression into two tiers: Act Levels, which reset every season, and lifetime levels powered by Mastery Points you rack up just by playing. It unlocks cosmetics like sprays, voice lines, and player cards, plus a customizable Agent ID to flex your stats. It's basically Riot trying to give you another reason to keep grinding that isn't tied purely to rank.
The timing is what really stands out: dropping a patch this size less than ten days before Champions 2026 is a bold call, since any instability in that window becomes a headache for the competitive scene. Then again, it tracks as a hype play — Riot knows player attention is maxed out right now, and using that window to push a new rifle and a party mode reads more like marketing than pure balance work.
For ranked-only players, the direct impact is the Warden shaking up buy decisions on open maps, plus a nicer-looking progression system with Agent Mastery. Anyone who just likes goofing around in alternate modes now has one more reason to log back on with friends once Gauntlet: Glitched goes live.
