Diablo 4 launches Season of Hell's Legacy today to celebrate the franchise's 30th anniversary

Blizzard flipped the switch on Season of Hell's Legacy this Tuesday, Diablo 4's fifteenth season, announcing it straight from the studio's official blog as the centerpiece of the franchise's 30th anniversary celebrations. The concept is easy to grasp and genuinely appealing if you've followed the series since the early 2000s: relive iconic moments from Diablo, Diablo II and Diablo III inside Diablo 4 itself.

In practice that means fighting the Echoes of Diablo, Baal and Mephisto as bosses within the seasonal questline, carrying a Splinter of Evil from each one to unlock powers tied to that Prime Evil. It's the kind of fan service that actually works because it isn't purely cosmetic: the Splinters grant real, usable effects, so anyone into testing new builds has a genuine reason to chase the story to the end.

The content drop includes nine Legacy Uniques inspired by classic gear from the saga, the option to use the Horadric Cube to bump a Unique straight up to Mythic while keeping every affix intact, and the return of Rebirth, a mechanic that lets you carry a character's identity and progress from one season into the next instead of always starting over. There's also the new Horadric Post mailing system and a Season Rank with more than 125 objectives for anyone chasing long-term goals.

All of it ships alongside patch 3.2.1, which beyond the seasonal content also touches class balance, difficulty scaling, and a batch of bug fixes accumulated since the previous season. The rollout went live at 9:30 a.m. Pacific (1:30 p.m. Brasília time), the same launch window Blizzard has been sticking to for seasonal turnovers.

The timing isn't a coincidence: dropping the most nostalgic season in the game's recent history right in the middle of the 30th anniversary is a clear retention play, aimed both at players who drifted away and at newer fans who never touched the classic games. It works well as bait, but it's also a reminder that Blizzard knows how to mine its own history when it wants attention during a year already packed with big reveals (the studio unveiled the new StarCraft project and Diablo V at the same BlizzCon 2026).

If you've got an established character, it's worth logging in early: Rebirth disappears once the season ends, so you can take advantage of the progress carryover without giving up what you've already built. For anyone who's rusty, the season plays almost like an emotional highlight reel of the whole franchise, which lowers the barrier to jumping back in quite a bit.
